Rev. Raymond
R. Pollatz, Jr.
was born August 3, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended elementary school at
St. Philip Lutheran School in that city and later went to Concordia College in
St. Paul, Minnesota and to Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska and
graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. For 5 years he taught at St. John
Lutheran School in Grand Haven, Michigan
before entering Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois. He
received the Bachelor of Divinity and the Master of Divinity Degree.
While
in college he met Marion Ude and they were married in 1957 after graduation.
They were blessed with four children, Victoria, Craig, Valerie, Brian
and nine grandchildren Robert, Thomas, Daniel,
Rachel, Benjamin (already in heaven), Janina, Collin, Benjamin and Bruce.
He was ordained into the
Holy Ministry on October 30, 1966 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Houston Texas.
While in Houston, he was involved with working
among Hispanics in the inner city.
He
served as pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Houston Texas, for 5 years; St.
Thomas Lutheran Church, Eastpointe,
Michigan, for 16 years; Trinity Lutheran
Church, Traverse City, Michigan, for 7 years; and Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran
Church, Mecosta, Michigan, for 11 years.
Pastor
Pollatz has served as counselor to the Houston Northeast Circuit, Traverse
Bay Circuit, Big
Rapids Circuit, and LWML. Also he was the Pastoral Advisor
and Chaplain to the
Lutheran Fraternities of America and chairman of the Tri-Circuit Conference and
member of the Board of Directors of Lutheran High
School Association in Detroit.
Rev.
R. Pollatz was awarded the Servus Ecclesiae Christi (Servant of the Church
of Christ) on May 16, 1986 by President
Robert Preus of Concordia Theological
Seminary of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Upon
retiring October 30, 2005 from 39 years in the parish ministry, Pastor Pollatz
now serves as a Regional Promotional
Representative for Lutheran Heritage
Foundation.
